Samar Kauss is a Brazilian Director of Photography and Camera Operator working between Brazil and Los Angeles. She has camera operated on Apple TV's Imperfect Women
(dir. Leslie Linka Glatter, starring Kerry Washington and Elizabeth Moss) and shot Amazon's black-and-white series Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage, alongside mentor

Darran Tiernan, ASC.

Her camera credits also include Star Trek: Picard (CBS), Finch starring Tom Hanks (Apple TV), Barry (HBO), The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix), and Perry Mason (HBO). A ten-year member of Local 600, she rose from Loader to Director of Photography.

Samar was selected for the 2023 AFI Cinematography Intensive for Women and the ASC Mentorship Program, where she trained under DP Andrew Droz Palermo, ASC.

Her  work includes the documentaries Big Day Out (eight months filming Aboriginal women in the Australian Outback) and Casa do Rio (Amazonia), plus the short films When the Bleeding Stops, Last Night, Manziello, and her series Portraits of Artists.

Trained as an editor in São Paulo before moving behind the camera, Samar brings a rare editorial instinct to her cinematography — a distinctive, precise eye shaped by over a decade in the cutting room.
